Two new updates. These did come out a few days ago but I'm lazy and it's a pain to do this on my phone lol. Anyway two more statements with Axnar. First I'll show Alec's statement from Thursday:
Second part is an article on the Axanar site.
Basically it "busts" 3 myths people have about the lawsuit. While I understand the source is biased, if anyone had official statements from CBS or someone close to the case they're more than welcome to put it here. Until then, discuss!
I enjoy the profit and non-profit conversation to an extend. In theory, yes, they do not get profit, because profit means that at the end of the day, you have excessive amounts of dollars, that weren't put into anything. Profit is basically the gross sum of your gains with your costs subtracted. Everything you keep from that is profit.
But on the other hand, some people are profiting from the usage of IP's and copyrights owned by someone else. Hence the salary.
Oh, Axanar. The fact that everybody loves what you did doesn't excuse the fact that you're stealing.
I think this was more aimed at people on Facebook who are vehemently attacking Axanar rather than holding a reasonable middle ground like us, or a pro Axanar stance like the people on "I Stand With Axanar."

Yeah, one thing I was going to say is that the post doesn't say what negative comments he is talking about. So it is slightly out of context and I think it is attempting to deflect the issue here by being vague.
I for one would love to see Axanar, I saw Prelude, thought it was great.
But, when the owner of the rights says, "That's it" then that is it. While they were clever to ask in court which rights were being infringed, it is, again, a deflection. That attitude is what I am not liking. It's like someone comes and grabs my pen, chews one side and then when I tell them to stop it, they turn around and say, "What law am I breaking?"
At which point I would either sigh at them and tell them to get me another one, or I would use some "creative appelative" and then still ask them for a new pen (depending on whether or not I have had a coffee) becuase frankly I don't like the attitude.
For people like the Axanar folks, a "reasonable middle ground" is an attack.
After all, they dropped hints of a conspiracy theory lolololololz.
To be fair the conspiracy theories I see are from the general "pro-Axanar" populace. The actual people working on the movie have been mostly tight lipped about the suit and haven't really been naming any theories on the "true" reason for the suit.
Not their direct fault -- the very first fan film that started raising a whole bunch of money and catch the eye of CBS was going to ruin it for everyone. It was just the matter of time. I bet if I did a $5k self-funded Trek short film, nobody would bat an eye. It's the Kickstarter that does it, methinks.

So I guess memes are off limits now too?
Here's the full image without the Facebook comment:
In case anyone is wondering, the second tag in Shatner's tweet is John Van Citters, head of CBS licensing for Star Trek. Any thoughts on this?
This is maybe slightly off topic, but I like how in the announcement trailer for Agents of Yesterday they used Vic Mignogna as a voice over to do a similar thing that shatner did in a lot off episodes. New Generation.
And Shatner send out a second tweet it was the fundraising with his face he didn't like.
