Evoch, the former assassin for the Romulan Star Empire, has been arrested at the remote mining colony known as New Paradise for the murder of a Romulan Republic states-person. He has requested that CDR Nathes be notified before anyone else.
Even though Evoch was found with the murder weapon in hand and hunched over the victim’s body, he claims he is innocent. Fortunately for Evoch, Marshal Phil Hershberger, an old lawman living out the remainder of his working days in what he describes as the kind of place that people and dreams come to disappear, suspects things are not as they seem.
