LOCATION Dromatar.

MISSION Investigate abrupt cutoff of diplomatic contact.

OUTCOME Preliminary investigation complete. Internal political reorganization on Dromatar most likely reason for cessation of diplomatic talks.

KEY PERSONNEL

  • LT Khet, Mossic
  • LTJG Stern, Ulrich

NARRATIVE Dispatched via runabout to Dromatar, myself and Lieutenant Khet immediately faced an almost Annatarian lack of actual communication. The entire governmental contact apparatus seems to be geared around comm menus. Unable to contact anyone in their diplomatic office, we eventually managed to secure an appointment with the counter piracy office.

Our meeting with the aforementioned office was not especially productive. A Klingon staffer did share that the entirety of anti-pirate duties had been recently transferred to the Klingon Empire, coinciding with the majority of reported pirate activity taking place near Klingon space.

After almost a week of trying to reach someone in any kind of diplomatic position, we were contacted by the CEO of Entozoom Industries, a Benzite man by the name of Kydock. Kydock asked us to end our investigation, claiming that continued questioning would only upset the status quo and lead to reduced profits across the board. It was Kydock that explained a new government coming to power had facilitated the shift away from Diplomatic ties with the Federation and towards the Klingon Empire. We have no hard evidence that the transition of power was outside the normal political process at this time, but we’re looking into that possibility.

One consistent pattern during our investigation has been the diffiuclty in contacting anyone from their diplomatic office for an official comment. Our calls have so far been ignored, and no attempt at scheduling a meeting or other appointment has succeeded.

RECOMMENDATION Require guidance on next steps. While willing to investigate further, it is this officer’s opinion that continued questions may lead to an appearance of meddling in internal governmental affairs.

OOC A very delayed report! Apologies for this taking so long!

ADDENDUM It took some more digging but it looks like we finally have a good explanation for the sudden change of heart Dromatar experienced and all the run-around we’ve gotten here. We talked to an official from the previous administration and got the inside story. Entozoom backed the new administration in a big way in the last election, pouring money into the campaign. The new admin is of course very pro-Klingon. We didn’t understand why until we went to check out a farming community based on a tip from the ex-official. As far as anybody there knew they were harvesting the local grass which is good for basically nothing. But we had a closer look at the harvester machines and it turned out the grass “harvest” was really a cover for extracting the worms from the soil. Best bet is that Entozoom can make big lat selling worms to the Klingons and bought the government they needed to make those trade routes safe and profitable. They’re doing serious damage to the topsoil in the mean time though. The knock-on effects of pulling those worms out of the ecosystem on a large scale will be massive if Entozoom keeps this up.
