D’TAN ISSUES APOLOGY FOR BORDER SNAFU
Republic Subadmiral resigns after quarantine of Federation colony triggers diplomatic incident.
The Federation colony world of Anides V has been in the midst of a medical emergency for some time, however when Starfleet vessels arrived to render aid, they found a squadron of Romulan Republic warbirds enforcing a quarantine of the planet.
After a late-night call between Republic Proconsul D’Tan and Federation Ambassadors, President Okeg’s office issued a public statement accepting the situation as an unfortunate misunderstanding - Republic vessels responding to calls for aid from the colony were ordered to quarantine the world to prevent the spread of disease while awaiting more specialized medical assistance. Strict adherence to those orders led to the confrontation in orbit.
The Proconsul issued a formal apology for the transgression this morning, announcing an immediate recall of RRF forces at Anides, pledging to provide medical or logistic assistance if the Federation should request it, and offering the best wishes of the Republic to all of the afflicted colonists.
In connection with this incident, RRF Subadmiral Pojaik of New Romulus Command has resigned his commission. GNN correspondents have learned that the Subadmiral was responsible for providing orders that were vague and politically insensitive, apparently prioritizing the quarantine over other more sensible considerations.
Starfleet Public Affairs has confirmed that the Republic blockade has been lifted and all involved warbirds have departed Federation space. With the diplomatic crisis averted, relief efforts for Anides V are being conducted by the 38th Fleet.
