There is one thing I hated about this episode. It was too short! ![]()
Arnt they all? Lol
Yeeeeessssssss.
That latest episode gave me some good laughs, little light on story but we got to see the characters get some building. Worth waiting a week for.
Whoâs going to start the weekly game of Batâleths and Bihnuchs?
Fun fact: Sam once did an entire Endeavour plot around a game of Holodecks and Hirogen. Mitsuki paved the way to a glorious victory!
Shaxs knows his baby bear.
This whole episode: Pure gold. I usually think of one or two cool things to call out, but I just liked every single scene in episode 8 here.
While itâs never said how long Mariner and Jennifer were together, youâd think that Jennifer would have been more supportive of her.
I think itâs somewhat implied that Freeman told everyone what Mariner âdidâ in equally vague terms as caused this problem to begin with to turn everyone against her.
Because families⌠right?
Definitely a miscommunication on behalf of both of them.
Yes, very disappointed in Jennifer here. I was really starting to like her. Donât know that Tendiâs response of âMaybe apologize for what you didnât do?â was the best, but at least it showed she was willing to believe Mariner.
While Jennifer could have possibly given more benefit of the doubt like the other Lower Deckers⌠Itâs not like she had reason to believe Mariner wasnât just covering her ass cause thatâs not that strange. The Captain saying she did a bad thing, bad enough to be transferred to freaking 80 conveys itâs not just a simple deal. Yes Freeman is wrong and everyone is also wrong by proxy but Jennifer doesnât know that.
I am not saying itâs right of Jennifer to write off Mariner that simply, but I think weâre being a little too harsh cause she really has no reason to believe Mariner. This is classic misinformation protocol here. We see Freeman realizing she screwed up but we havenât seen Jenniferâs reaction to the truth yet. I am pretty sure itâs not gonna be blase.
I think that would be more true if Jennifer were just another person on the crew. Sheâs in a relationship with Mariner, and that does kind of put a duty on her to not dismiss Mariner so easily. You can see how that hurts Mariner much more. And that was probably done to serve the plot, but itâs definitely not positive character development for Jennifer.
I agree with the idea that Mariner is especially hurt by it. Thatâs sensible and clear in the episode. I donât agree on the âdutyâ to give Mariner benefit of the doubt though. Jennifer isnât required to do anything if she honestly believes Mariner did something that bad and she does believe that at the point. Jennifer likely felt like Mariner was the one betraying her (and the rest of the crew) and thus she deserved her reaction. We the audience have the benefit of knowing Mariner does not deserve that, but they do not have that information.
Plot contrivance or not, I donât think itâs poor character writing. If anything I think it is painfully accurate character writing. People in relationships have issues all the time with communication or trust. Especially people in newer relationships. They arenât exactly 20 years married after all.
I didnât say she has a duty to agree with her, but a duty to listen to her. Which she didnât. So if I were Mariner, Iâd be giving her the mightiest of middle-fingers at that point, and let her rot. Weâll see if Mariner sticks to that path or if thereâs some unearned reconciliation. I mean her mom did the same thing, but that just makes it worse, not excused. Iâd be calling up the archeologist chick at that point too.
I also didnât say it was poor writing, I said itâs negative development for Jennifer. It means sheâs not as good of a person as I thought.
Yea I just got caught up. And wowâŚI mean they have been giving Mariner the middle finger most of this season though. I mean as her IMMEDIATE family, her father (who was in on the whole thing) should have clued Mariner in on the whole Freeman Court Case thing. Then the whole âyour going to tow the line or Iâll transfer youâ bit she has been on with Ransom, sure she needed a little more direction but they made it out to be so humiliating and had no hope/trust in her.
Freeman is a horrible/toxic captain IMO. And as her girlfriend, Jen should have at least heard her out. Mariner deserves so much more, I feel bad the âcrewâ got separated, but I hope they properly address t some and not BS it to resume status quo. (Hell sect31 could pick her up)
Iâm caught up on LD and itâs still my favorite ST show by light years. I donât really feel the need to post a multi-paragraph commentary. I like the show, itâs cool, it takes itself seriously but doesnât drink its own kool-aid. Good stuff. Itâs the only ST show I can comfortably binge.
