Ensign Renaah Felenn has taken up on his first independent assignment after nearly three weeks on Deep Space 13. During that time he had picked up on daily routines in his subdivision of Operations Department, assisting senior and more experienced staff in keeping countless computers, computers terminals and data acquisition systems (be it starbase’s various sensors or just a laboratory equipment) working around the clock.
As the technology across various members of Khitomer Alliance becomes more and more interconnected, the software has to follow the suit. Ensign Felenn has been tasked with upgrading underlying operational systems in Auxiliary Engineering Labs in the lower decks of DS13.
The system UFPuntu 2419.06 “Cautious Caitian” should be replaced with UFPuntu 2422.08 “Devious Denobulan”. While the new system is more streamlined in cross-talk for various Alliance algorithms and hardware components, it still has to be tailored to the specific needs of each computer system. And installing new system across three laboratories at the same time can be daunting, particularly for a fresh Ensign.
