NARRATIVE The Federation diplomatic team aboard the USS Forrestal entered Azedi space, accompanied by Valkyrie escorts, and held a face-to-face meeting with Grand Chancellor Eraton of the Viggo Confederacy. Several of our delegation took multiple weapons onboard, which had to be disarmed upon arrival.
The Grand Chancellor demanded the return of 8,000-year-old wormhole schematics, which they claimed were vital for the Confederacy’s recovery after the Terran invasion. Chancellor Eraton cited widespread devastation across Azedi worlds, including Viggo itself, as justification for their request. We raised concerns about security risks and the potential misuse of the technology by separatist factions within the Confederacy, as a way to disarm the Chancellor, and offer a justification to our hesitancy.
I proposed a cultural, scientific, and military exchange program as a compromise to build trust and facilitate collaboration. While Chancellor Eraton agreed to consider such an arrangement, he was adamant to underline the Confederacy’s independence and self reliance. Sage Agave Boitekanelo, representing the Ikmore faction, exhibited open hostility toward the Federation, complicating efforts to build rapport.
The meeting concluded without a formal agreement, but Chancellor Eraton agreed to contact the Federation at a later date to resume discussions.
RECOMMENDATION I firmly believe that our efforts should lie with fostering better relations with Kacam, Ralin, and Citali, instead of with the Confederacy, who seem intent to fly solo. If that is how they wish to proceed, we should allow them freedom. Meanwhile, a stronger Kacam, Ralin, and Citali will benefit us greatly.
The desire for the Grand Chancellor to want the schematics cannot be understated; he greatly wants them. I would infer that the Confederacy do not have the means to use wormholes, and cannot develop this technology further. Records show that Citali were the scientific minds of the Confederacy. Thus careful and immediate diplomacy should be made to align them with Federation goals and not with the Confederacy.
The diplomatic talks give us scope to enact a blockade, as it was mentioned that we are weary of subversive and terrorist elements threatening the Federation from the Confederacy. The Grand Chancellor mentioned that if they had wormhole technology, they would be able to prevent these elements; the fact they do not have them gives us ample reason to enact a blockade “to prevent these elements from attacking the Federation and destabilising the Confederacy”.
Finally, we must get more intelligence on the development of the Viggo. The Grand Chancellor’s cruiser was highly modernised - far from the mechanised interiors of previous Azedi ships. How they are modernising these vessels is of critical concern, and intelligence must focus on the build up of Viggo’s forces.
RECOGNITION None.
