(deprecated) psych profiles

Psych profiles are an optional part of the post-recruitment process handled by the DS13 Counseling Department. It acts as a prompt and opportunity for one-on-one character interaction and conversation, for those who want to expound more on their character’s history and personality.

A written evaluation (on our part, not yours!) is usually the result of these interviews and gives you the chance to see if your character is coming across the way you want him/her to, at least from one player’s perspective. They usually take about 1 to 1.5 hrs (see template report for more info) and are by appointment only. To have one scheduled, contact the Counseling Department Head (Katriel@evenrue) or another counselor of your choice.

Note that any advance information on your character that would be found in a Starfleet dossier on the nets would be highly appreciated. :geek:

PURPOSE AND CONTEXT OF EVALUATION

Psychological evaluations tend to fall in one of three categories.

  • Basic Profile Assessment: A holistic interview to develop familiarity and a baseline expectation of personality and behavior. These are "no stakes" evaluations where the counselor is looking to get to know the officer a bit better and to simply provide an account of meeting.

  • Counseling Routine Exam: The mental health equivalent of medical's 'physical' exam, this interview checks on the general mental health and emotional wellness of the officer.

  • Psychological Fitness Evaluation: An interview requisitioned by a command authority to evaluate an officer's fitness for duty and/or for command. These evaluations are more intensive and tend to focus on the specific incidents that led to the mandate. Evaluation results are often directly utilized by command authorities to assist in decisions regarding the officer's career. Failure to meet certain standards in these evaluations may negatively impact an officer's career in a variety of ways.

Please note that psychological evaluations are different from getting counseling / receiving therapy. Though sometimes counselors will offer advice/counsel in evaluations, true therapy and consultation appointments will be more involved, more focused on the 'problems' ailing the officer, and they do not necessarily result in filed reports.

Once finished, the evaluator should post his/her report as a reply to this thread, which will then be merged into the alphabetized list.

PURPOSE AND CONTEXT OF EVALUATION

Determine subject's state of mental health for restoration to active duty.

CONCLUSION

Authority finds subject to be of sound mental health and fit for active duty.

DISCUSSION

Subject's mental and emotional states has improved immeasurably since the last evaluation. Some remnants of her experience still linger in the form of affected confidence in her leadership skills and lack of general motivation to command, but this is likely to decrease once subject has returned to duty and has been availed the opportunity to prove capable to herself.

PURPOSE AND CONTEXT OF EVALUATION

Determine subject's state of mental health for restoration to active duty.

CONCLUSION

Authority finds subject to be of insufficient mental health and therefore not fit for active duty at this time.

Re-evaluation recommended in one month.

DISCUSSION

Subject is doing her best to carry on normally, but is afflicted by high tension and faces the majority of inquiries into her welfare with an on-edge sort of containment. Her recitation of events during imprisonment was largely clinical, but not accepting or well-integrated, and she retains strong feelings of misgiving regarding many separate incidents during the time period. This is likely largely due to the subject's feeling of being primarily responsible for the welfare and actions of all her fellow prisoners, due to seniority/rank.

Authority notes that the subject's behavior in all other respects is comparatively normal. Authority's opinion is that subject is likely already tracking to full recovery, she merely requires more time, as expected with consideration for species normals.

INTERVIEW STARDATE: ((16 Sep 2016))

PURPOSE AND CONTEXT OF EVALUATION

Basic Profile Assessment.

CONCLUSION

Authority finds subject to be of sound mental health and fit for active duty.

DISCUSSION

Authority notes that she has had several extended interactions with the subject prior to this interview and has always been impressed by the subject's gracious demeanor and uniformly considerate attitude that is widely above reproach. Subject consistently strikes the balance between polite reservedness and amiable outspokenness; she is honestly expressive while remaining tactful and is personable without seeming presumptuous. Authority therefore finds it completely unsurprising that she manages to strike a positive rapport with seemingly everyone with whom she interacts.

Subject's amiable composure is likely borne of a genuine interest in other people and their welfare. She is driven, despite the practical impossibility, to know and connect more personally all of the individuals in her working environment in order to better accomodate their needs and to achieve a more unified feeling amongst her crew. Subject favors a personal touch and is capable of 'outside the box' thinking when looking for command solutions, when all the standard ones have been exhausted. She trends towards optimistic outlooks on those around her and her circumstances, though remains grounded in reality-driven neutrality, and retains a quiet self-confidence and a solid emotional support network.

INTERVIEW STARDATE: ((28 Oct 2017))

PURPOSE AND CONTEXT OF EVALUATION

Basic Profile Assessment.

CONCLUSION

Authority finds subject to be of sound mental health and fit for active duty.

DISCUSSION

At the start of interview, subject demonstrated a high level of anxiety for the proceedings. He was generally overprepared, with rehearsed responses that did not accurately reflect his true mental state. When confronted on the attitude, subject eventually relaxed and became more himself. Subject is unused to failing, having performed extremely well thus far in his career, and has monumentally high expectations of himself and the officers around him. Combined with his fairly insular personality, subject likely has very little in terms of emotional support network, which authority does feel some concern about for the long term.

The subject does, however, seem to have a genuine interest in becoming an excellent officer for the sake of excellence, rather than being externally motivated by ambitions of glory or fame. Subject has a sincere affinity for learning and improving, so authority feels that his becoming more aware of his surroundings and his fellow officers is not beyond his reach. Though subject has a great deal of personal self-confidence, he is neither excessively egocentric nor blindly optimistic. His world view on the motivations of others is squarely neutral and approaches problems with an internal locus of control.

PURPOSE AND CONTEXT OF EVALUATION

Basic Profile Assessment.

CONCLUSION

Authority finds subject to be of sound mental health and fit for active duty.

DISCUSSION

Subject was entirely affable for the duration of interview, with an easy conversational manner and no inkling of self-consciousness or any detectable reluctance to discuss himself and his family. Subject seems well-suited to his profession, carrying with him a respect for the system to which he must adhere, while remaining cognizant of its pitfalls and keeping faith and optimism on still being able to make an impact. Authority observes that the subject is a competent compartmentalizer, in his separation of personal and professional opinion.

Authority observes that the subject's family is a highly prioritized part of his life and subject is willing to make practical career sacrifices to honor their needs. This may be largely due to the subject's development of a constant self-improvement mindset, which allows him to re-frame unappealing circumstances in terms of their opportunity and potential for change. This trait runs parallel with the subject's resilient optimism, both in regards to his external circumstances and other people's motivations, though it is tempered by the realist's view that is proffered by his professional experience.

PURPOSE AND CONTEXT OF EVALUATION

Basic Profile Assessment.

CONCLUSION

Authority finds subject to be of sound mental health and fit for active duty.

DISCUSSION

Though subject was, at the start, afflicted by a very mild and understandable degree of anxiety, subject outwardly presented a distinctively calm and professional mien for the entire duration of interview and was generally fairly well composed. Authority notes that the subject demonstrated a healthy respect and appreciation for the challenges of command, while maintaining a likewise determination to live up to the expectations entailed within. Authority posits that this attitude is likely borne of the subject's more underachieving origins; whatever the reasons for change, subject seems resolute in his desire to serve and not waste the opportunity he's created for himself.

While subject does profess to be primarily traditional in command style, preferring a more offhand approach, subject is willing to consider and employ more unorthodox methods of accomplishing tasks, as long as it falls within satisfactory parameters of safety, etc. His externalized world view on others and their motivations trends neutral to slightly negative, though when concerned with only himself, he remains more balanced between optimism and realism. Finally, subject has a strong inclination to favoring the broader picture, feeling that the individual moments or milestones are nowhere near as significant as the overall journey of which they are composed and, as thus, largely refuses to linger overmuch on past junctures of regret.

PURPOSE AND CONTEXT OF EVALUATION

Basic Profile Assessment.

CONCLUSION

Authority finds subject to be of sound mental health and fit for active duty.

DISCUSSION

Authority observes that subject largely led interview at the beginning, willing to engage almost immediately on the topic of a recent event in which subject currently questions his judgement. Authority notes that while the subject gave all the appropriate and health-conscious responses to her inquiries, it did have a touch of rehearsedness to it. Authority suspects the subject certainly understands counseling rhetoric, but is still in the midst of gaining distance from the event. As subject seems fairly confident in his ability to gain distance from his dilemmas to relax, authority will not register concern at this time.

Subject appears to possess a fairly moderate temperament, though authority senses that this is due more to age and experience, rather than natural inclination. Periodically, subject demonstrated a willingness to laugh at himself and other amusements, as well as a clear reluctance to elaborate on more painful elements of personal history. Subject's general outlook is also strongly moderate, trending towards neutral views of just about everything, though slanting a bit positive.

PURPOSE AND CONTEXT OF EVALUATION

Basic Profile Assessment.

CONCLUSION

Authority finds subject to be of sound mental health and fit for active duty.

DISCUSSION

Subject's outward manner was friendly and sociable from the outset. However, he demonstrated significant trepidation during interview, largely due to his anxieties over how his early career interruptions would be perceived. Subject possesses a fairly deep-seated sense of shame and self-contempt from this which, merited or not, is likely to impact his career's upward trajectory in the very long term. Though occasionally reluctant, subject responded honestly to questions asked and took complete ownership of his shortcomings. Authority observed that the subject is, despite everything, fairly grounded in his approach to new situations and problems, suffering no lack of self-confidence for his decision-making and demonstrating no particular fear that he will re-lapse.

Subject trends generally positive in outlook and on his perceptions of the motivations of others, with a slightly more external than internal locus of control. Authority is somewhat concerned about the lack of a ready emotional support network; though subject seems to believe he can rely on current family and friends, authority suspects they are likely considered 'last resort' supports for him. BFI-2 scores: high on openness to experience, conscientiousness, and extraversion. Average on agreeableness. Low negative emotionality.

PURPOSE AND CONTEXT OF EVALUATION

Determine subject's state of mental health for restoration to active duty.

CONCLUSION

Authority finds subject to be of sound mental health and fit for active duty.

DISCUSSION

This evaluation is in response to the communication sent 95043.2 at Captain Derix’s request. Authority would also like to note subject has not attended any formal counseling sessions related to the event in question. Contents of subject’s recovered memories were not discussed during evaluation as specifics were not deemed relevant enough to the evaluation process. Follow-up counseling sessions could be beneficial to subject should they be requested however no formal orders to attend sessions have been made at this time.

Subject responded positively to questioning. While admitting to feeling anxiety before the recovery procedure regarding the contents of said memories, subject has utilized the memories as a way to help process events that had occurred to her. Subject has found a support system of friends and partners to help work through stress and anxiety due to the memory recovery process. Since the event, subject admitted to experiencing nightmares revolving around the memories, however asserted they had ceased.

Authority reviewed previous answers to standardized questioning and compared to answers given by subject during the evaluation. Consistency was found throughout most of subject’s answers, however authority did notice an increased willingness to discuss problems and accept advice from those subject trusts. Authority finds this change to be beneficial and increase the chances of subject asking for help should she need it in the future.

As a small side note, authority does recommend subject’s ship expense reports be monitored more closely presently and in the future due to the nature in which some questions were answered.

PURPOSE AND CONTEXT OF EVALUATION

Basic Profile Assessment.

CONCLUSION

Authority finds subject to be of sound mental health and fit for active duty.

DISCUSSION

Subject's attitude from the onset of interview was both carefully composed and earnestly engaging. She demonstrated confident respect for the authority and her responses to questions were thoughtful and comprehensive. Subject's body language indicated a high degree of comfort, regularly smiling and tilting her head in genuine consideration, even when asked about topics that are traditionally considered sensitive. Authority feels that the subject likely places high value on harmonious working friendships and seems to embody this value directly in her initial approach when meeting others for the first time.

Subject's own assessment of early personal history indicates that she has spent a not insignificant amount of time in reflection of who she once was and who she now has refocused herself to be. Of particular interest is the subject's mild curiosity over the memories she is lacking; despite the likelihood that this time period was a dark one with potentially traumatic experiences, subject professes to being more interested than not in knowing what may have passed. Subject's breadth of professional knowledge and personal interests are quite varied and well rounded, engaging both cerebral and physical skills. Though her convictions are generally more moderate, she trends squarely towards optimism and positive perceptions on the motives of others and her locus of control is balanced more internally than externally.

PURPOSE AND CONTEXT OF EVALUATION

CONCLUSION

Authority finds subject to be of sound mental health and fit for active duty.

DISCUSSION

At start of interview, subject willingly lead with an admittance that she has been feeling unlike herself since her transfer to present posting. Subject has an academic understanding of the benefits of regular social engagement with peers and colleagues, but due to her naturally introverted sensibilities, subject is having difficulty making genuine connections that reflect her interests and comfort level. Subject demonstrates a remarkable level of self-awareness with these observations and her willingness to proactively engage to change an unsatisfactory status quo should be commended. Authority has offered a few actionable suggestions to assist with the subject's self-professed problems, to which the subject appeared fairly receptive.

Despite the subject's evident frustration, her mannerisms throughout were generally temperate and collected. Her open displays of amusement, though uncommon, were readily made and established her attentiveness to the discourse at hand. Subject maintains, perhaps unreasonably, high expectations on herself, often feeling as though she is capable of solving any problem with sufficient application of self and unconsciously practicing a double standard of patience between herself and others. Regardless, subject has completely functional working and social relationships with her vessel crew, so authority is confident that if subject continues to apply herself to social situations, she will gain the same equilibrium with her remaining fleet peers as she is.

Subject's worldview avoids the extremes and trends towards neutrality and moderate pessimism. Subject is generally neutral on the motivations of others.

PURPOSE AND CONTEXT OF EVALUATION

CONCLUSION

Authority finds subject to be of sound mental health and fit for active duty.

DISCUSSION

At this time, authority's assessment of subject finds her to be a highly polarized individual, given to emotional ends that others don't tend to reach and capable of very rapid changes in her mood and interactions with others. Subject's mannerisms are patently transparent and obvious, she either lacks subtlety or completely disdains it, perhaps preferring the forthright approach, and her motivations tend to be fairly evident to others. Her demeanor is particularly warm and friendly which can endear her to some, but may be potentially offputting to individuals who find her to be overly familiar and presumptive.

Subject possesses an extraordinary degree of self-confidence, which authority finds a bit at odds with the feeling that the subject seems perpetually dissatisfied with her lot in life, though not outwardly. Subject is fairly particular about her preferences and especially values demonstrations of trust, both in her as the recepient or her as the giver. Despite the impression that authority has of the subject being under a lot of pressure from multiple sources, subject maintains a remarkable level of moderate to very strong optimism, especially when it comes to her perspective on others and their motivations.

PURPOSE AND CONTEXT OF EVALUATION

Psychological Fitness Evaluation

CONCLUSION

Authority finds subject to be of sound mental health and fit for active duty.

DISCUSSION

Authority finds it important to first note the potential cultural barriers involved with this evaluation. It is not frequently members of the Romulan Officer Exchange Program are sent to Starfleet Medical for Psychological evaluations. Specifically, some concepts during the final round of questioning seemed rightfully foreign to Subject. Authority has taken this into account and will accommodate to the best of its ability for the purpose of this evaluation.

Subject projected confidence and ease throughout the evaluation, despite an unfamiliar environment and unfamiliar situation. Responses to questions were universally direct and to the point, often prompting follow up questions in order to acquire adequate responses. However, the subject spoke candidly and openly once the right questions were asked, so Authority is inclined to believe the brief answers were evasive in nature.

On the subject of professional relationships and conflict management, the Subject appears perfectly willing to voice opinions, backed by data, when she believed it important but also willing to follow orders when confronted by unyielding command structures, even when disagreeing with said structures. This was reinforced during the final round of questioning where the Subject exhibited a somewhat internal locus of control; Subject believes she is able to directly influence her own environment and her choices but recognizes there are forces over which she has no control over.

When it came to discussing the Subject’s history working with Starfleet, Subject was confident in her abilities to plan and execute plans, but did not seem willing to invest more hope in situations than provided by empirical data, suggesting a more realistic outlook than an optimistic or pessimistic one. This coupled with the Subject’s high discipline would likely predict, at the least, a highly efficient and meticulous Officer.

Subject appeared comfortable with forming social and parasocial relationships with fellow Officers, even those within the Federation and felt confident in speaking easily with those she has established trust with. This results in a social support system usually not seen to develop often between members of the Federation and members of the Republic.

CONCLUSION

Authority finds subject to be of sound mental health and fit for active duty.

DISCUSSION

During interview, subject presented a dauntless and purposeful attitude. His responses to questions were casual, but civil and mostly germane, and he seamlessly elaborated when necessary. Occasionally, subject used language that connoted meanings that he did not seem to intend, or else he did not realize the potential ways in which he might be misunderstood. Subject is ardently devoted to his chosen field and industry. While this is certainly generally gratifying and ideal to see, authority has minor reservations that the subject may be overzealous in seeing counseling as a solution for everyone. Subject professed to no personal concerns or worries during interview and limited himself to only a mention of one channel of professional inexperience.

Subject identifies as extroverted and evidences no particular career ambitions, remaining wholly and entirely focused on the welfare of his patients and whatever path will keep him in closest service to them. Subject's convictions are not moderate in the least, his opinions are strongly held and often reflexive. His worldview is rigorously optimistic and he reserves little to no suspicion on the motivations on others. CONCLUSION

DISCUSSION

Authority was gratified to see the subject approaching interview with a fine balance of decorum and eagerness. The subject is clearly invested in her chosen career and very hardworking, utterly brimming with a healthy dose of ambition without forgetting her responsibilities. Authority is impressed by the degree that the subject knows what she wants for her future so very clearly and finds it likely that the subject is determined and willing to be a little competitive in order to achieve her goals.

To some minor degree, it's almost detrimental, the singular, laser-like focus which makes it all too easy for the subject to tunnel-vision, but for the most part, the trait seems to improve her working ability. Similarly, while subject seems to be primarily logically-driven, there seems to be some small capacity for slightly more rash decision-making, but this is extremely natural considering her relative youth and inexperience. Subject generally trends towards optimism and has a largely positive outlook on the world and of the people around her.

DISCUSSION

During interview, subject was generally in possession of a particularly amiable and friendly disposition. Authority has observed that the subject is fairly driven and frequently carries his enthusiasm from task start to finish, a quality that the authority admits seems to be increasingly rare in officers. This passionate streak would explain the subject's willingness to engage in more dramatic and less rational actions in order to 'make a point'.

Subject trends strongly towards optimism and positive outlook on both life in general and of the people around him. Subject acknowledges that his inclinations in this matter have resulted in regular disappointment when things don't turn his way, though that has yet to prevent him from engaging in this behavior. CONCLUSION

DISCUSSION

During interview, authority observed subject to be a highly agreeable officer, his manner primarily accommodating and easygoing, with no evidence of nervousness or anxiety at the upcoming assessment and readily smiling when moved to do so. In terms of his default reactive attitude to external stimuli, he is chiefly proactive and practically hands-on, preferring to get into the thick of things and learn directly, rather than wait for secondhand information. At the same time, subject finds it unacceptable to not have a complete picture of a situation, so is likewise prepared to consult with others before making a difficult decision.

Authority did observe that the subject may have some difficulty in admitting out loud to traits that he perceives as potential shortcomings, even though said traits are quite commonly shared with other officers and are not necessarily shame-worthy, such as struggling to relax. Subject is likely to be internally more pessimistic than what would be assumed considering his comfortable outward manner, especially when it comes to his own capabilities, while his general outlook towards life and the motivations of others trends strongly neutral to barely moderately positive.

PURPOSE AND CONTEXT OF EVALUATION

Psychological Fitness Evaluation

CONCLUSION

Authority finds subject to be of sound mental health and fit for active duty.

DISCUSSION

Authority would like to first note the subject was willing and able to discuss - to the extent he was allowed due to clearance - previous traumatic events such as captivity while remaining collected. Subject has taken advantage of support systems, through station counseling and outside familial connections. This being said, the point of this evaluation was not to make a full psychological workup of the subject and therefore, Authority is not equipped to comment any further on the subject’s coping mechanisms.

Subject puts on the appearance of serving as a rank and file Starfleet member. Answers to questions were given directly and for the most part, the subject avoided establishing any strong opinions one way or the other. Despite this, the subject seems to believe he has little control over how he appears to others and does little, socially or professionally, to exert any influence. The subject follows orders and procedures as are outlined by Starfleet and his superior officers, regardless if he agrees with them or not and does not believe conflicting opinions should be voiced at the time of occurrence, especially in a public setting.

With the current lack of leadership in the subject’s department, it appears seniority has inadvertently given the subject some measure of authority among his fellow officers. While the subject professes conflict to not occur frequently within his department, he indicates a willingness to not universally apply the same resolution to each critical incident arising. Instead, the subject employs different techniques appropriate to the particular situation, all following within the lines of policy and procedure; support, resources, discipline or other options are all worthy of consideration.

It is Authority’s opinion the subject still believes force to be a viable option, even when directed towards non-combatants or even prisoners of war. However, the subject has demonstrated enough of a willingness to follow orders to convince Authority that he would obey both Starfleet directives and his Commanding Officer’s directives banning the use of force.

AUTHORITY: Head of Counseling, Deep Space 13

SUBJECT'S NAME: Levesley, William
INTERVIEW STARDATE: ((12 Jan 2019))

PURPOSE AND CONTEXT OF EVALUATION

Determine subject's state of mental health for restoration to active duty.

CONCLUSION

Authority finds subject to be of sound mental health and fit for active duty, with reservations. See discussion section.

DISCUSSION

Subject possesses a fairly pragmatic view of his recent experience, neither overly emotional nor excessively closed off. During imprisonment, subject's focus understandably narrowed to primary goals of survival and escape and through this framework, he neither questions nor regrets choices and actions made and is generally ready to move forward with his return. Authority would normally have considered the subject to have, without question, properly integrated his experience and be otherwise fit for duty, were it not for the subject's admittance to committing an act of violence out of anger, rather than self-defense or necessity, during his imprisonment.

Given the extraordinary circumstances of mental adversity and hardship in which the act of violence should be carefully contextualized, the authority considers the subject's loss of control to be emotionally justifiable, if not necessarily reproachable.

The authority's reservations lie outside of the immediate context of the subject's recent captivity. There exists an outlying question as to whether or not the subject potentially possesses either previously sustained emotional trauma or a personal philosophical worldview that he readily utilizes as permission to engage in more brutal tactics when it comes to enemy hostiles. This is beyond counseling's scope to examine. The authority concludes that a separate Command investigation that analyzes the subject's record in its entirety and especially any patterns in his attitude towards non-allies, would perhaps not be without merit.

CONCLUSION

Authority finds subject to be of sound mental health and fit for active duty.

DISCUSSION

Authority's prior dealings with the subject have generally left the authority with the impression that the subject is customarily calm and grounded, as well as particularly professional. Subject continued to demonstrate all these qualities during interview and authority observed a general lack of self-consciousness from the subject in regards to being evaluated. Authority notes with some curiosity that this is somewhat at odds with the subject's reserved and almost understated nature, but for the most part, authority was widely satisfied with the pure candidness of the subject's responses.

Though the subject's mannerisms are ineffably placid, authority likewise notes that she is prone to idle, if tidy, absent-minded movements. Though authority never felt, exactly, like the subject was mentally preoccupied with other thoughts, authority notes that the subject's reserve may at least partially be caused by her ability to distance herself from present events. Subject mentioned an ability to work well under pressure, which authority finds very believable, considering this trait.

At this point, authority recognizes that the subject herself acknowledges that she remains somewhat isolated socially due to her own preferences. As per usual, authority is reluctant to be completely at ease when any subject states this. As the subject has demonstrated no causes for concern, authority will not press the issue for now.

Counseling Routine Exam

CONCLUSION

Authority finds subject to be of sound mental health and fit for active duty.

DISCUSSION

Authority would like to register that a friendly relationship exists with the subject prior to interview and will be utilized to supplement authority’s evaluation of the subject. The subject was recently promoted to Chief Science Officer of Deep Space 13, therefore a complete analysis of subject’s leadership style and conflict resolution (which will be discussed below) was not viable. Authority would suggest a follow-up Command Leadership evaluation in six months to reassess subject’s leadership abilities. Subject admitted to a more ‘lax’ style of leadership, influenced by prior leaders the subject deemed too ‘strict’ or ‘formal’ who may have impacted work efficiency negatively. Subject also noted she prefers a motivational style of leadership, delegating resources to those under her command based on work quality. In regards to allocation of resources from Command, subject demonstrated an understanding of the laypersons she reported to, employing strategies to interest and impress, but not frighten or discourage.

In regards to the basic profile assessment, conducted Stardate 92347.3, Authority finds the subject has undergone emotional and social growth. Subject did not have a patronizing attitude, nor did she stray off topic frequently. At times, subject did elaborate more on a topic than was required, however at other times more elaboration was required. Subject does still suffer from forms of social anxiety, though she is currently undergoing weekly counseling sessions via holochat with an off-station counselor. Subject admitted to having problems picking up on social cues, but she did mention her larger social success beginning with her assignment to Deep Space 13. While the subject may have difficulties making friends, she assigned a high value to friends she does have.

PURPOSE AND CONTEXT OF EVALUATION

CONCLUSION

Authority finds subject to be of sound mental health and fit for active duty.

DISCUSSION

Authority would like to register at this time that she has had some trivial interactions with the subject prior to interview, therefore the authority's impressions and evaluation will be supplemented by these other firsthand interactions. Foremost in the authority's observances is the marked lack of emotional cues on the subject's behalf. Though the subject was not completely devoid of feeling, and even self-professed to nervousness or general anxiety, these emotions rarely made any appearance outwardly, which authority feels may create some cognitive dissonance for those that interact with the subject. Subject therefore comes across as blunt and unsubtle, even on occasion a bit patronizing, when authority feels this is unlikely to be the intent.

Authority also feels that the subject may suffer some degree of lack of self-awareness. Though subject has self-identified as someone who keeps her problems to herself, authority found subject to be rather effusive, frequently dipping into personal topics and willing to discuss herself and her prior troubles even when unprompted, albeit in a fairly nonchalant and non-dramatic manner. Subject has a strong valuation for expanding one's body of knowledge, demonstrating a streak of pride in her position as a forerunner in her areas of expertise and particular readiness in expounding on her research and her opinions with other parties.

PURPOSE AND CONTEXT OF EVALUATION

Psychological Fitness Evaluation

CONCLUSION

Authority finds subject to be fit for active duty contingent upon attendance of counseling sessions.

DISCUSSION

This evaluation is in response to the communication sent Stardate 95136.5. Authority would also like to note subject has not attended any formal counseling sessions related to the event leading to the requirement of psychological evaluation. Because of this and the subject’s responses to questions throughout the evaluation, authority believes both a return to duty and counseling to be beneficial to the subject. Subject is required to attend weekly counseling sessions for a period of no less than four standard weeks.

Subject displayed signs of discomfort and anger while questioned about the specific event leading to the required psychological evaluation. This was further compounded by frustrations induced by a sense of restlessness experienced by the subject while awaiting a return to duty. While the subject has compensated through a variety of personal projects, the restlessness has still persisted. While feelings of anger and frustration were expressed, subject does not appear to harbor any unnecessary burden of guilt or responsibility for the incident.

Subject has a fairly optimistic view of life and the beings within it, despite professing to have difficulties establishing long lasting friendships. A support system does not seem to exist for the subject, through the subject’s own design. This, however, does not appear to create antipathy or conflict with those the subject works with.

Authority believes once the subject has dealt with the memories and residual feelings connected to the incident, subject will integrate easily into current and future assignments.

PURPOSE AND CONTEXT OF EVALUATION

CONCLUSION

Authority finds subject to be of sound mental health and fit for active duty.

DISCUSSION

During interview, subject demonstrated a high energy and plentiful enthusiasm, typical for her peer group. She seems to be fairly easily entertained and enthralled by her surroundings and appears to derive significantly more novelty value from repeated activities than others ordinarily might. Subject's responses were often quick and not especially well thought out; she does not appear to engage in a great deal of deep thinking. However, subject does possess an abundance of grit; she is not easily discouraged by failure and tenaciously seeks improvement on work she enjoys, especially if it is high intensity. This may lend her to perform extremely well in high stress, solitary tasks, but possibly less well in team-oriented situations.

Subject could use additional exposure to Federation cultural diversity in order to increase her capacity to handle potential friction from culture shock. Subject is strongly optimistic and positive, with high self confidence and a balanced locus of control. BFI-2 scores: high on agreeableness and extraversion. Average on openness to experience, conscientiousness, and negative emotionality.

CONCLUSION

Authority finds subject to be of continued sound mental health and fit for active duty. Authority asserts no signs of excess stress or anxiety was observed during interview and maintains full confidence in subject's ability to function in his capacity as commander.

DISCUSSION

Since the subject's last review, authority has had extended familiarity with the subject as he's gained increased responsibility in the Task Force. Previously registered concerns regarding the subject's ability to integrate and assimilate fully to a regulations-heavy environment have all been proven needless. Authority finds it plausible that the subject's generally easygoing manner and off-hands sort of command style may be a direct product of his unorthodox induction into service.

It remains a somewhat unusual approach, but seems to result in his subordinates feeling more at ease and less frightened of making mistakes, knowing that they have a relatively compassionate overseer. This is not to say that the subject is too soft, as he likewise appears to have an instinct for when a more disciplined mien is necessary and will promptly enact one for those circumstances. Subject trusts his subordinates to use common sense and to know when not to overreach, thus those under his command become vigilant through the intrinsic desire of wanting to avoid his disappointment, rather than extrinsic fear of reprimand.

Authority notes that some of the essentials have not changed. Subject continues to demonstrate an amiable presence and maintains a deadpan, almost inscrutable sense of humor about him at almost all times. Subject is not unhappy with his increased obligations, but neither has he gained any additional ambition and continues to prefer to go with the flow and see where life will lead him. Subject retains a realistically optimistic outlook on life and people in general, is rarely if ever preoccupied with negative outcomes that result, and maintains a healthy balance between consulting his peers for advisement and the edict of command.

SUMMARY OF FINDINGS

The authority granted by Starfleet Medical P.D. finds the subject to be of sound mental health and fit for active duty, as of his official transfer date.

At this time, the authority would like to note that the subject has had a comparatively unusual induction into service. The authority has some concern that, because the subject has no formal academic history, he may find it challenging to integrate into an establishment where the majority of officers are essentially culturally indoctrinated by Starfleet regulation. The authority acknowledges that the subject has thus far appeared to have adapted seamlessly despite this disparity, so the concern is minimal at best.

During the interview, the authority observed the subject’s amiable and mild disposition and, in particular, his propensity for productivity. The subject is strongly disinclined to be idle or sidelined, preferring to seek out opportunities to make himself and his crew more useful. Additionally, while the leadership role itself may not directly appeal to the subject, he did verbally state a preference for having the freedom to make his own decisions, which has led to the subject’s pursual of his own command.

Due to the subject’s firm expression that he has no attachment to his lifestyle prior to entering Starfleet, the authority declined to investigate any potential anxieties associated therein. The authority recognizes that this must be an area of visitation in the future, should circumstances warrant it.

CONCLUSION

Authority finds subject to be of sound mental health and fit for active duty.

DISCUSSION

Subject presents a particular attitude of someone who successfully powers through long and hard working hours with an enduring focus and steadied pace. She is industriously prepared, perhaps overly so, for potential surprises and her nonchalant demeanor and approach speaks of a readiness to stay on her toes and react calmly. Subject is professionally forthright, open enough with her responses but not offering too much, while also maintaining a low key sense of humor in her interactions. The authority also observes that the subject is thoughtful and cautiously fixated on detail; she appears reluctant or disinterested in assuming too much about a situation without knowing more.

Subject does not have any ambitions other than to stay in her career track, which she enjoys for its clear engagement with causality. Given her somewhat lackadaisical attitude towards experiencing new environments, it suggests the subject is generally open-minded and interested in new experiences if life brings her to them, but is not specifically motivated to pursue them for their own sake. Subject trends moderately positive in both worldly outlook and on the motivations of others and possesses a balanced locus of control.

CONCLUSION

Authority finds subject to be of sound mental health and fit for active duty.

DISCUSSION

Subject seems to still be finding his feet to some degree with his relatively recent promotion. While subject does not evidence any significant self-esteem issues, neither does subject carry himself with any particular confidence. During interview, subject was somewhat nonexpressive and though his answers were not exactly terse, they were fairly plainspoken, straightforward, and light on details. Subject values the welfare of his crew, as well as his loyalty to Starfleet and though he professes to be occasionally susceptible to interpersonal conflicts, he does his best to navigate them with equanimity.

Subject seems to have a substantial grasp of his emotional health and support network. He trends towards suspicion and pessimism when taking into consideration the motivations of other people, which runs parallel to his feeling that individuals have very little control of their external circumstances. However, the subject does ascribe a great deal of faith and optimism in the effectiveness of his own controls and actions, which suggests an incongruity in self-perception.

CONCLUSION

Authority finds subject to be of sound mental health and fit for active duty.

DISCUSSION

Subject presented an impeccably disciplined and competent manner during interview, without ever stepping so far as to be seen as brusque or unceremonious. Subject's largely pragmatic attitude was in evidence in just about all of her responses, with a clear preference for methodologies and actions that are transparent and cooperative in nature and strongly disliking unnecessary complications of any kind. Though she self-describes as a traditionalist in her approach to problem-solving and management, subject is not unappreciative of experiences that will expand her world view and values such memories as unique imprints upon her psyche, leading the subject to a seemingly well-balanced sense of self.

The subject's world view at large remains moderate, neither feeling that circumstances are too beyond her control or unrealistically well within them. Subject's outlook on other individuals and their potential motives is, perhaps, guardedly positive. Though she continues to be resolved in keeping her personal life as strongly segregated as possible from her professional one, subject maintains a healthy self-assurance in regards to her own capabilities and a similar degree of confidence in the abilities of her support system.

CONCLUSION

Authority finds subject to be of sound mental health and fit for active duty.

DISCUSSION

Subject attended interview with his typically affable and personable manner. Though his speech is generally unrestrained and spotted with informalities, subject never seems to strain the boundary standards of courtesy and professionalism with his attitude. Subject professes to being remarkably satisfied with his posting with the fleet, feeling both pleased with the relevant leadership attitudes and contented with his particular standing and the work that has brought him there. Despite recent events, subject remains steadfastly devoted to his responsibilities and though he has had to adjust to a more involved social network, he does seem to enjoy the exceptional feeling of community as a result.

Scrutiny of subject's responses to profiling survey observes the subject to be eminently unassuming, which authority finds to be in direct contrast to the subject's robust sense of self-confidence; the subject is not generally in a habit of second-guessing himself, yet he remains somewhat reserved with his expounding on his own personal issues. Authority suspects this is partially due to subject's understated certainty that he'll be able to address these issues in time on his own and partially due to his sometimes believing the difficulties may not worth entangling others in. Apart from this, subject trends strongly positive in his world view on other people and their motivations, though his optimism is tempered by fairly realistic expectations garnered by years of experience.

CONCLUSION

The Authority finds the subject of sound mental health and believes that the subject is ready to be returned to active duty.

DISCUSSION

The subject shows no sign of trauma from their recent coma, however the subject did admit to very vivid lucid dreams they had while under their coma. Upon further questioning subject revealed the dreams mainly centred around their future, predominantly their family life and star fleet. The dreams signify the subjects fear of being forced to retire, the subject is very dedicated to starfleet and when questioned if they were fearful of losing their uniform subject revealed they were as starfleet has been their entire life - Therefore if the subject is forced to retire this could leave to psychological impacts.

Also Subject has expressed struggle with his physical strength, Subject revealed that like his rank his physicality is also something very important to him and the loss of physical strength due to the coma is having negative effects on the subject. However when questioned about whether returning to previous strength would make the subject feel more like them self again subject revealed that he has never not felt like himself but would feel more comfortable. - Patient prescribed himself rigorous daily exercise to begin rebuilding his former strength which the authority would encourage as these would also help the patient mentally.

However despite these things, it shows that the patient has no lingering trauma from the effects of his coma and has nothing that would impede him from returning back to his normal command.

CONCLUSION

Authority finds subject to be of sound mental health and fit for active duty.

DISCUSSION

During interview, the authority observed the subject’s manner to be generally congenial and open, moved easily to smiles and willing to discuss her history. Though subject initially appeared to be displeased with the necessity of being evaluated, the authority is grateful to note that the subject did not appear to be recalcitrant in any degree, though this did not preclude the subject from occasionally expressing amusement whenever the authority required clarification on any topic. Authority additionally observed that the subject appears to have a remarkably conscious connection with her symbiont, which may seem somewhat chaotic to the outside observer, but subject seems wholly comfortable with the arrangement. Authority notes that this internal preoccupation has been reflected into external behavior, as the subject rarely remained physically idle during interview.

Of particular note is the subject’s extraordinarily practical outlook towards the majority of subjects, which is at least partially due to the advantage of multiple lifetimes’ worth of experience. The subject is capable of switching rapidly from one mood to another as need dictates, with the finely honed instinct for when to mourn and when to move on. Though the subject is not incapable of being illogically sentimental, for the most part, the observed behavior suggests a generally healthy management of her emotional well-being.

PURPOSE AND CONTEXT OF EVALUATION

CONCLUSION

Authority finds subject to be of sound mental health and fit for active duty.

DISCUSSION

During interview, subject presented himself as a particularly self-motivated and thoughtful youth, with a studious mien. Authority considers the subject to be unusually well-adjusted for his age, with a capacity for foresight that officers many times older often lack, to the degree that authority is uncertain whether or not the subject really possesses the self-management skills that he claims to have. Nevertheless, the authority remains generally impressed by the subject's sense of perspicacity and fearlessness to address his own shortcomings and venture onto the path of most resistance.

Subject possesses a fair amount of self-assuredness and a likely degree of competitiveness, as well as a moderate streak of reservedness. This latter trait may be directly related to the subject's disinterest in the activities and antics of his peer group. While not antisocial, subject does possess a level of indifference in moderating or interjecting himself into other people's business. Subject's outlook on the world and other people is mostly neutral as he strikes the balance betweeen optimism and caution.

CONCLUSION

Authority finds subject to be of sound mental health and fit for active duty.

DISCUSSION

Authority would like to register that she has always been impressed, and continued to be so through this interview, with the subject's extraordinarily patient and polite mannerisms. This may be a symptom of being one of the very few of his species that is generally considered fairly intimidating to the average Federation citizen, as he suffers quietly through the unintentional microaggressions others leave upon sighting him. Though he is capable of not taking the slights personally, he is forced to maintain a constant awareness of who he is and his potential for damaging the relatively fragile people and things surrounding him.

Despite all this, subject appears to be quite satisfied with his life as it is presently and though he does occasionally miss the company of his kin, he appears to have carved out a niche for himself in the meantime. Subject enjoys being intellectually challenged and possesses a mild sense of humor that he isn't afraid to demonstrate. He does retain a healthy level of self-confidence, unbothered by the possibility that others do not share his tastes. Subject's outlook on life and those around him is, however, extremely neutral, likely feeding into his ability to remain patient and reserve judgement until he knows more about any given situation.

DISCUSSION

Subject is in possession of an eminently friendly and amiable manner, prone to smiling and not afraid to laugh at items he finds amusing. Subject treated the interview with a professional level of focus, giving thoughtful responses while simultaneously never abandoning his more casual air. He frequently found ways to lighten the discussion and moved easily between topics of varying emotional sensitivity. Subject can be mildly self-deprecating for the sake of humorousness, but authority saw no evidence that he suffers from any actual low self-esteem issues.

Subject has a clear preference for informality where plausible and has few stringent demands on the officers he works with, preferring simply that they be motivated by the gain of knowledge and joy of discovery. He trends towards moderate optimism and positivity, tilting slightly towards an externalized locus of control. CONCLUSION

Authority finds subject to be of sound mental health and fit for active duty. Authority affirms that no psychological trauma was observed during the interview, though subject has professed to continued periodic symptoms which bear continued assessment and treatment.

DISCUSSION

Subject is largely characterized by his open and freely expressive demeanor; having been in counseling for an extended period of time now, he demonstrates a level of natural self-awareness that makes him extremely comfortable with speaking aloud about his difficulties to counselors, and he willingly does so without rancor or melodrama. Subject does possess a streak of stubbornness. Though he will follow orders he does not agree with, subject also retains the necessary temerity to counter orders of inaction when he feels like he must. Subject has a highly kinetic personal energy, prone to physical gestures and movement even while sitting still, and values his colleagues for their reliability and ability to keep a cool head.

Despite the subject's trauma-fraught recent history, he maintains a remarkable sense of optimism and generally positive outlook on the people around him and his circumstances. This is a cornerstone aspect of the subject's being, further evidenced by his spiritual faith, which is predicated on tenets of forgiveness and kindness towards others; he would rather believe in no deity at all than one that is purposefully cruel. His capability for this sort of emotional flexibility is partially tactical; he is more reliant on his ability to bounce back from a catastrophe rather than suffer an unyielding, eternal endurance through it.

CONCLUSION

Authority finds subject to be of sound mental health and fit for active duty.

DISCUSSION

Typical of her species, subject presented a generally placid demeanor, providing answers to questions that ranged between laconic to succinct. She periodically paused in her speech to select the word that best conveys the meaning she intended. Primarily the interview discussion focused on the subject's current interest in reaching a new balance regarding her processing of logic and emotion, which seems to be a highly variable and individualized from one specimen to the next. Subject considers herself not yet ready to take on her own command, despite having been recommended for such, due to a belief that command requires greater emotional access.

Authority harbors some minor concerns regarding these discussions, primarily on the feasibility of the subject's self-exploration and what underlying foundational reasons might exist to explain these desires. The authority is observing that the subject is actually making a fair number of decisions based on emotional reasoning rather than logical already, which suggests a potential blind spot in the subject's self-awareness. Subject generally trends optimistic on outlook and positive on the motivations of others. Confidence in support structure is high and certainly the subject is in possession of a highly self-reflective and thoughtful nature. Subject's locus of control is marginally more inward than external.

CONCLUSION

Authority finds subject to be of sound mental health and fit for active duty.

DISCUSSION

During the interview, subject expressed herself directly and efficiently. Most of her responses were short or curt, addressing the literal interpretation of the questions she was asked. This often prompted multiple follow up questions, which the subject answered in similar fashion. While certainly efficient, authority has some concerns this tendency may frustrate others she works with or elongate the process of receiving all critical information during her duty shifts.

Subject exhibits an external locus of control, seeing events as things which happen to her, often outside of her control. While open and willing to learn and improve herself, she may be unwilling to seek advice from others when personal problems arise. She appears unsure of her social and emotional support network. To the subject, social situations are viewed as tactical in nature and often transactional. In a similar vein, subject does not feel comfortable expressing contradictory opinions to her superior officers, unless she believes it vital; she simply follows orders. Despite this, subject does have an overall optimistic view of others.

It is of Authority’s opinion subject would benefit from a Commanding Officer who puts her in situations where she is required to solve problems without direct orders from her superior. This will not only highlight any improvements she needs to make - which will be readily undertaken by the subject - but also begin to shift her locus of control from external to internal, increasing her confidence and effectiveness as a Starfleet Officer.

DISCUSSION
