Personal weapon qualifications are an optional part of the post-recruitment process in which a character becomes (re)certified in the handling and operation of standard issue personal weapons.

#### REQUIRED COMPETENCY

* Candidate demonstrates a respect for the danger posed by the weapon while not in use by ensuring it is always pointed in the safest direction for the circumstances.

* Candidate demonstrates an understanding of the difference between kill and stun firing settings, and explains in what type of circumstance each firing setting might be used.

* Candidate demonstrates competent handling of the weapon by adjusting its firing settings, enabling and disabling safety mode, and disconnecting the power supply for safe storage.

* Candidate demonstrates the ability to hit multiple simulated moving targets at close to medium range.

Solid knowledge of basic weapon handling and safety, excellent accuracy at close and medium range; seemed a bit rattled by audio cues, especially misses

EXAMINER’S NOTES

LT Morrailles wanted to be certified for away missions, admitted he had not discharged a phaser in some time and was “a little rusty”. Demonstrated good trigger discipline, safe weapon handling; accuracy was only fair at first but improved over evaluation. Asked about and was informed of armory checkout procedures for further practice.

This officer is found to be competent in the operation of standard issue self-defence phaser weaponry.

This officer sought assessment and qualification on Federation weapons as part of their current assignment. This officer displayed, at all times, exemplary respect for the weapon and handled it well despite its unfamiliarity. This officer’s accuracy was exceptional at all ranges.

I am fully satisfied with this officer’s performance and ability.

EXAMINER’S NOTES

After completing basic qualification, Ensign Rhein was willing to continue at a higher difficulty. Accuracy at this level was significantly lower but still above the line. Commended him for effort and encouraged him to practice more on his own time.
