Every time I see the Discovery I can't help but think how much better it would look with its nacelles raised above or level with the primary hull.
Edit: Here's a very interesting article about the use of holograms in Discovery.
Personally.. I think the Discovery looks like a TOS Sovy, or a Starfleet attempt at a Cardassian ship

But Jack, then they'd be missing an opportunity to work yet another delta shield into the design of the show!

The silhouette would still be a delta if they raises the nacelles. Just add an angle to the struts.

So I watched both available episodes tonight. I'm definitely done. I won't go into detail because it sounds like some people liked them (or at least liked them enough to want to see where it's going), and I don't want to rain on anybody's parade. Hope it serves the audience it has found well, but I won't be in it.

After a certain point, you have to wonder if Sarek realizes that, based off of empirical evidence, he's clearly not a very good parent.
Neither Spock nor Michael really seemed to enter adulthood as anything resembling well-adjusted, and while we don't ever see young Sybok..
Sybok is Sybok.

To be fair -- I get the impression that Sarek is gone a lot. Because Ambassador.

Jack:
I've learned to never underestimate the Vulcan capacity for denial.
We're talking about a species/culture that claims to never lie, but knows a hundred ways of "shading the truth"; one that insists they don't hold grudges, or engage in other illogical, emotional behavior, when they clearly do; a way of life literally founded ondenying repressing controlling all emotion, lest it destroy them (again).
They've chosen to live with a lie because they've learned (or at least believe) that they can't live with the truth - that it will kill them.

I just finished the first two episodes, and I feel like I was watching the series finale of Star Trek: Shengzou rather than the opening to Star Trek: Discovery. That's not to say I didn't enjoy it in spite of its flaws ((apparently Braga is still just handing out cloaking devices, Balance Of Terror be damned)), but we got a lot of resolution to scenarios that we didn't see set up. Still, can't wait to see where they go from here!

Oh, sure. I think there was a serious missed opportunity, here: start exactly one season earlier: get us attached to the Shengzou, its crew, et cetera. Let us see them in monster-of-the-week adventures exploring the cosmos.
Then, kill off the Captain and start a war.

I'm not sure if this would have solved all my problems but it would certainly have addressed a lot of them.
The show's creators are describing the first two episodes as a "prologue" with the third as the actual "pilot". Which is kind of a misunderstanding of what a pilot is, but also just a crazy way to set up a show. They should have either spent a season earning goodwill for the checks they are trying to cash in these episodes, or just started with the story they're telling in episode 3.

As I said elseforum, take the part of DS9 "Emissary" set aboard Saratoga at Wolf 359, and stretch it out to 90 minutes (2 hours with commercials).
That's what we got here.
IMO, they probably would have been better off to spend no more than half an hour on Shengzhou, then spend the rest of the time getting Our Hero set up aboard Discovery.

So, mild spoilers for the book Desperate Hours, which is apparently officially canon, but it explains why Pike and the Enterprise crew wear a different uniform.
'while the Enterprise team sported pale gold or light blue jerseys over black trousers — a new uniform style that so far had been issued exclusively to the crews of Starfleet’s vaunted Constitution- class starships.'

Makes sense I suppose. The DSC uniforms do have a ENT vibe to them still. Who's to say that Michael won't run into a Constitution ship and crew at some point in the series and we'll see the TOS uniforms we all know.

It finally hit me why continuity changes don't bug me as much as they bug you guys.

GIANT-SIZE ARGO THING
Do we get Loki and Captain American in this giant sized Argo retcon comic?
Yeah, but they're only canon until next month's issue.
