Any guesses on whether that monster was onboard the Glenn and survived/escaped during the incident, or if it was somehow created by the incident?

Finally why did Lorca keep the giant tardigrade?
Also I'm 60% sure they had a Gorn skeleton in that shot too, need to double check. Easter Eggs!
You're correct! It was a Gorn, if you look on the table too theres a pair of Cardassian..voles I think it was. Another little tidbit, have another look at the scene when Michael is in the glass box being mushroom-energized you can spot a Preserver Obelisk and even Starbase 11 from The Menagerie.
EDIT! Screen caps of those places.

Kermit, that could actually redeem that episode for me. I am here for this.

Uh, nice question. I've taken for assumption that it was a different monster (i.e., that both the Glenn and the Discovery had a specimen on board). Otherwise, it'd be much like Terraformars.....
I got the distinct impression that it was not something that Discovery already had aboard. Otherwise the away team (other than Burnham, and especially Landry) would have known what it was. The one they have at the end of the episode definitely came from the Glenn:
Quote:
So, is our new guest settled in?
Aye, sir. Snug as a bug in a rug.
Then I think we will spend some time together this evening. Thank you for beaming it aboard.

The others may not necessarily have known. Perhaps, it was a secret.
They definitely beamed it onboard from the Glenn. They specifically mention it having been beamed aboard.

To be honest, I still don't understand well that "physics as biology" concept (well, I understand it theoretically; what I don't understand is how it could be really possible to develop an engine from it, and why the hell that engine should be so...powerful), but what you said makes sense. This could also help explain why that thing survived the Glenn incident.

I should've missed it, sorry.

Personally, my bet is that this line of research ends up spinning off into early holodeck technology, and maybe some kind of proto-transwarp for them to work into the Excelsior, but it's still pretty early on.
I don't know it could translate into holodeck tech, but yes, for the Excelsior is a bit too early, although this kind of research, I assume, may be veeery long.
After Watching the Latest Discovery:
Krag: "What is this, 'Discovery of Thrones'?"

Oh, I really liked it! For those of you wondering why nobody uses Stamets' drive in the future if it's so cool, you already have your answer...
Starfleet is poised at this point to choose Burnham's way or Lorca's way, Burnham's universe or Lorca's... we know which one they eventually take!
Still in love with Michael.
Still loving this show.
And next week! CLASSIC Trek storyline!
Spoiler: SPOILERShow
in Michael's SCIENCING and in her FACE as she realizes that they're torturing the tardigrade when they're jumping around. Poor Stamets though is not exactly going to be Elon Musk.

Also, so THAT's why there's a split in the saucer.

well... I can say that this latest episode has pushed me towards liking a lot more then I did before (Still not accepting the new Klingons) But, I do like that is explains why the spore drive isn't a thing in the TNG era.
The more I think about it, though, the more I'm not happy with the character death they gave us...

I would have been okay with the death if it had meaningful impact or drived the story at all, but it hasn't so far.

I'm looking on IMDb, and Commander Landry, or rather the actress, is suppose to appear in 8 more episodes.. clones?
The main theme is really growing on me.
You read a lot of complaints about the show not feeling like Trek, this episode (4) is certainly Trek to me, it feels awesome to Discover stuff with Michael.
I really love how, I was feeling all suspicious about everything on that ship and Lorca, then within the first 10 minutes, that's gone. It's like they're just playing with us.
Mushroom Travel is awesome.

There's the possibility that she'll have been paid a little extra to put a few more credits in the IMDB tank and keep fans from guessing she'd die early. There's always the possibility we'll see logs with Landry in them, etc.
It was always obvious to me, though. Rekha Sharma wasn't listed in the opening credits.
Oh, and I'm still suspicious of Lorca. That man is Not Right In The Head.
