First discovered in 2089 by Betarian astronomer Zhen Xiu, the 7956 Zhen Xiu system is largely unremarkable. Located within the Alpha-7190 Sector, 7956 Zhen Xiu features a single M3 V Red Dwarf, with four planets (two of which are Class C, two Class P).

The system features no known lifeforms and no substantial deposits of rare elements such as Dilithium meaning it has a low priority for exploration.

Following a survey by the U.S.S. Endeavour, a low orbit solar station was discovered within the stars upper atmosphere. The station shares similar design and construction qualities with Iconian structures, however it is too deep within the stars atmosphere to mount additional exploration or recovery efforts, even with the assistance of metaphasic shielding. The purpose of this structure is unknown.

Despite being within the star’s thin habitable zone, 7956 Zhen Xiu I’s long rotational period, in combination with the equal length orbital period results in one side of the planet being left in perpetual darkness. No water of any form or atmosphere has been detected on the planet.

7956 Zhen Xiu Asteroid Belt

An asteroid belt located within the 7956 Zhen Xiu system.

Two stations built into what were believed to be asteroids have been discovered, with a field of radiation between them. It is unclear what purpose, if any, this field of radiation serves. One of the stations was boarded by the crew of the U.S.S. Sun Tzu and was discovered to have been a research laboratory holding a number of spaceborne life forms commonly found in the Alpha Quadrant.
