Recovered Starfleet Transceiver
Spoiler: Show
ORIGIN:
Recovered on the Siral Colony by the crew of the USS Pegasus
COMPONENT ANALYSIS:
Performed by Lt. Pertwee of the USS Shackleton
Outer Casing
Forward Frame Point of Origin - Quantum dating indicates this piece originates from approximately 2421. Radiometric particle decay suggests an age of at least ~300 standard years Source - Forward frame is marked with a Starfleet serial number. Serial #FR-94432K7. Current Starfleet records indicate this part is allocated to the USS Eminence. |
Rear Casing Point of Origin - Quantum dating indicates this piece originates from approximately 2421. Low levels of radiation and microscarring in the sample interfere with other method of dating. Source - Composition of the sample alloys matches that of a Galaxy or Nebula-class impulse reaction chamber. Extent of wear suggests the reactor had been run far in excess of its normal service lifetime. |
Forward Panel Point of Origin - Quantum dating confirms this piece has not been temporally displaced. Thermoluminescent dating gives its age as approximately 150 years old. Source - Unknown. The panel is composed of duranium alloy with no trace elements to indicate its place of origin. It was likely fabricated on board a starship or station. |
Primary Display Point of Origin - Quantum dating indicates this piece originates from approximately 2421. Radiometric particle decay suggests an age of at least ~300 standard years for the internal components. The outer surface of the display has been replaced recently using present day materials Source - Unknown. The panel is Federation standard but has no identifying markings |
Inner Cowling Point of Origin - Quantum dating indicates this piece originates from approximately 2421. Radiometric dating is hindered by evidence of extensive structural damage. Source - This component has been repurposed from part of a photon torpedo. ID number referencing shows that this ordanace is currently allocated to the USS Atlantis |
Rear Access Panel Point of Origin - Quantum dating indicates this piece originates from approximately 2421. Further analysis is hindered by evidence of extreme radiation and particle flux. Most likely source is close proximity to an uncontrolled matter/antimatter reaction Source - Intact part number shows this has been repurposed from a Starfleet medical stasis unit. This unit is currently slated for allocation to the USS Durandal, Buran-class. The USS Durandal is set to be commissioned Stardate 95742.2 |
Internal Components
Signal Transducer Point of Origin - Quantum dating indicates that several parts of this component originate from approximately 2421. Many of the internal components have been replaced with newly synthesized parts. Source - Forward frame is marked with a Starfleet serial number. Serial #FR-0054923ES. Current Starfleet records indicate this part is allocated to the USS Koryo. |
Transmitter Point of Origin - Quantum dating indicates this piece originates from approximately 2421. Source - The transmitter is a modified Starfleet combadge. The component appears functional but has suffered damage from an unidentified particle weapon. Starfleet ID ST-337-2095-AJD. Currently assigned to Cpt. Alyx J. Derenzis |
Subspace Antenna Point of Origin - Quantum dating shows this piece has not been temporally displaced. Relative particle decay places its age at approximately 60 years. Source - Comparison of part and serial numbers indicate that this part originates from the USS T’Valas, Miranda-class. This ship was marked as MIA during the Dominion War and never recovered. |
Receiver assembly Point of Origin - Quantum dating indicates this piece originates from approximately 2421. Wear analysis approximates its age at roughly 340 years. Source - The construction and materials match that of a KDF vessel constructed by the House of Martok. Cross referencing the ID to current records shows that this component has been repurposed from the comm array of the IKS Su’sa. |
Power Cell Point of Origin - Quantum dating indicates this piece originates from the present day. Source - Repurposed phaser battery from a Type-III phaser rifle. Origin unknown. |
Amplifier Point of Origin - Quantum dating indicates this piece originates from approximately 2421. Internal components are mismatched and seem to have come from different sources. Source - Starfleet serial no. SFR-087762PFS. Main assembly is from a Peregrine-type fighter currently assigned to the USS Pegasus. Source of other internal parts is unknown |
Receiver Point of Origin - Quantum dating indicates this piece originates from approximately 2421. Relative decay analysis approximates its age at ~290 years. Source - The receiver assembly is of Romulan design, but lacks identifying markings to help determine a more exact origin. |
FINAL NOTES:
The transmitter contains a haphazard mess of components. Many of the small connections and harnesses not listed in the official analysis appear to have come from a large collection of sources both Federation and otherwise. Some appear fabricated while others appear assembled by hand. There are no organic matter traces or forensic clues as to who was responsible for the construction and maintenance of this device.

Analysis
Materials The (assumed) hull samples are composed primary of duranium and tritanium alloys. These are interspersed with a type of composite metamaterial whose purpose is not yet fully understood. There is also evidence of an organic component, but damage from the battle and subsequent reentry has destroyed almost all traces. |
Structure The alloys in the fragments are woven in the form of microfilaments. Fine strands of duranium are woven together with strands of tritanium and other components. Cmdr. T’Vrin theorized that these structures resemble organic ones and may be grown rather than fabricated traditionally. Each filament is homogenous and measures only a few micrometers in diameter. |
Metamaterial Analysis The unknown metamaterial composes roughtly a tenth of the total mass. Unfortunately almost all of it was damaged beyond repair in the recovered samples. Analysis by Commanders T’Vrin and Mandra found that much of the material exists in a state of molecular flux. Several of the elements that make up the strands are inherently unstable and under normal conditions are incapable of existing. Attempts to manipulate the strands caused an almost instantaneous collapse of this metastable state and the material imploded on itself. A freak lab accident led to the discovery that this material may have phase shifting properties. The trigger and purpose are still unknown. |
