A Novel Idea
Bookstore - £
An antique bookstore that's rather odd, just like it's owners; a Mister and Missus Lucifer and Barbera Foxworthy, a retired eccentric British couple with "oh so upper class" voices.
The shop itself is shaped like a
giant ship, that spans two decks, and can be accessed from either deck; a door from the upper deck, and a ladder from the lower deck.
The "upper deck" has a small cafe of sorts, with soft sofas, comfortable armchairs, and puffy beanbags scattered about. Sitting on these sends one sinking deep into them, and getting up (or wanting to get up), is nigh on impossible. Mr Foxworthy is often seen snoozing on one of the comfier armchairs, a newspaper over his chest, his slippered feet on a footstool. In place of the aft castle is a cafe and the storefront, as well as the Foxworthy's living quarters. All edibles, which include cakes, cookies, brownies, etc, are all homebaked by Mrs Foxworthy.
At the fore of the ship, there are steps leading down to the "lower deck". On this deck are books everywhere, stacked from floor to ceiling. There is barely space to move between the twisting maze of the book forest. Not a single section of wall can be seen, everywhere is colonised by books,
very much like this place. Fiction, non-fiction, ancient, modern, from all corners of the galaxy. The smell of old musty books hangs in the air, the only sound are the faint turning of book pages, and Lewis, the Foxworthy's friendly exocomp. It buzzes around the maze, rescuing lost visitors, finding requested books and genres, and moving book stacks to retrieve books someone may want.
The store runs on a trust-based system. People are free to purchase books as they like, with a recommended price listed for each book. However, the Foxworthy's are happy with people paying as they wish, and even let people take books away for free. Anyone is free to exchange or donate books as they wish. Mr and Mrs Foxworthy wish to spread the love of reading, and the shop is their idea of doing so.
