The U.S.S. Sun-Tzu (NCC 98725) was a Federation Avenger-Class Starship operated by Starfleet. Constructed Post-Iconian War, the Sun-Tzu was built from the ground up with some of the most advanced systems of the time. A spiritual successor to the Inquiry Class, The Avenger Battlecruiser encompasses the spirit to continue the mantra:
“One of the Toughest, Fastest, Most Powerful Ship Starfleet has ever put into service”

History of the Ship
Built off the basis of the late 24th Century Inquiry Class Battlecruiser. As the name suggests, the Avenger shares many characteristics with Klingon Battlecruisers, having been designed for war and not exploration. Despite adhering to Starfleet’s traditional cruiser design pattern of a large saucer connected to an engineering hull, with two outboard warp nacelles, the combat focus of the Avenger is expressed in nearly every aspect.
The Avenger-class Battlecruiser’s design aims to provide a durable warship that is more maneuverable than Starfleet’s existing cruisers, and can carry a devastating amount of firepower. However, it does sacrifice a measure of hull strength for this extra maneuverability. There is nothing subtle about this starship class. The Avenger’s aggressive silhouette and available firepower make it a formidable and intimidating presence in any battle.
The Avenger’s size is much closer to a Klingon Battlecruiser than a standard Starfleet Cruiser. This is largely due to the fact that the starship was designed by the Starfleet Engineering Corps to compete with the smaller, more agile vessels Starfleet is facing in battle.
Though preceded by the more advanced Arbiter Class Battlecruisers during the Iconian Threat, Starfleet Engineering Corps decided to go back and re-design the Avenger Class once more.
History of the Name
Sun Tzu was a Chinese general, military strategist, writer, and philosopher who lived in the Eastern Zhou period of ancient China. Sun Tzu is traditionally credited as the author of The Art of War, an influential work of military strategy that has affected both Western and East Asian philosophy and military thinking. His works focus much more on alternatives to battle, such as stratagem, delay, the use of spies and alternatives to war itself, the making and keeping of alliances, the uses of deceit, and a willingness to submit, at least temporarily, to more powerful foes. Sun Tzu is revered in Chinese and East Asian culture as a legendary historical and military figure.
As a following of the Inquiry Class Vessels, which followed similarly named ships of ancient eastern philosophers and military figures, Such as the U.S.S. Zheng-He during the Federation-Zhat Vash Standoff at Ghulion IV in 2399) Sun Tzu was chosen for the newest class of Avenger.

Energy and Propulsion Systems
Quantum Phase Mechanics are the striving principle behind many systems on the Sun Tzu. The ship is powered by a Mark XV Sustained Protomatter Warp Core with built in Quantum Phase Application Systems. These systems tie directly into the specially designed Combat Impulse Engines, Deflector Array, and Shield Array. To increase her rapid response capabilities, she is also outfitted with Impulse Capacitance Cells allowing her quick bursts of speed to out run, out maneuver, or bounce in and out of combat situations. She was also upfitted with a Transwarp Computer System allowing the ship to maintain longer slipstream warp drive travel. ((However, this only encompasses the ship if she is not over encumbered [IE: Not Tractor/Tractoring with another ship]))
With the many other systems onboard, The Sun Tzu is capable of forming a Chroniton Integrated Quantum Slipstream tunnel which is currently the fastest Slipstream Drive in the Federation, allowing her to cross vast distinctness and respond to threats far quicker than other Battlecruisers, making her an excellent frontline response unit or combat supply runner.
Weapons and Tactical Systems
In addition to the Quantum Phase Applications for Propulsion and Power Generation, Several Offensive systems are based on advanced Quantum Mechanics. Quantum Phase Catalysts Systems tie into the Phaser Beam Arrays, Heavy Cannons and Quantum Torpedo Firing Systems. The Primary utilization of these systems is the Quantum Phase Converter, which ties in with the aforementioned Quantum Phase Application Systems. Utilizing active sensor data from the deflector, and incoming enemy weapon frequency data from the shield array the Converter modulates the firing frequency of the Phaser Arrays and Quantum Torpedo’s to attempt to bypass the enemy shields, calculating new modulations based on impact frequency from each shot fired. The Phaser beams also act as a two-way micro energy transfer, siphoning small amounts of power from an enemy vessel to recharge the Quantum Phase Converter. Wide Angle Dual Heavy Beam Banks were added to supplement the Dual Heavy Cannons to give the ship a wider firing fore arc against opponents.
The Quantum Destabilizing Beam is routed through the Quantum Phase Converter and Deflector Dish, to fire a concentrated beam of Quantum Phase Energy at an opponent. While active the beam causes moderate Phaser damage, as well as creating a Energy Weapon Entanglement which boost the siphoning energy from the opposing vessels active subsystems, restoring or overcharging the power levels of the Sun Tzu.
The Variable Auto-Targeting Armament System has its own launching platforms on the fore star drive section next to the Deflector. This very versatile weapon was designed specifically for the Avenger Battle Cruiser. This overwhelming weapon fires a pair of Auto-Targeting Armament Projectiles that travel toward your designated target. Every few seconds, these projectiles will fire weapons (either micro quantum torpedoes or a tachyon beam) at the target or any designated hostile within 10 km of their targeted path. These weapons are specifically designed with maneuvering thrusters and onboard targeting computer allowing them to track and follow evading enemies. Should the primary target be destroyed before they reach their target, they will return and act as defensive drones until their payload is spent. (They can also be fired/programmed to escort/drone mode)
The Quantum Warhead Module is a swappable payload which fires out of the V.A.T.A. Launcher, and can disperse 6 additional Quantum Torpedos in conjunction with standard Torpedo Volley without overloading launcher bays. Each Module has to be loaded manually, therefor it takes time before each shot, but effective when you really need to make a final push.
Another on-hand Payload newly developed Massive Quantum Warhead. This armament operates closely the same as the V.A.T.A. warhead, but instead of utilizing Micro Armament and advanced targeting computers, the warhead is equipped with a micro warp core, which when detonates, creates a wide effect range, able to damage the target, and any ship within a 5km range of the blast. The ship can generate two warheads at a time, but each warhead must be primed prior to launch, so they are not.
Defensive Systems
Built into the ships systems is an Ablative Hazard Shielding System which works as a prototype advancement of the Ablative Shielding brought back by the USS Voyager from the Delta Quadrant. This system utilizes special shielding techniques to fortify the hull itself (instead of acting as an outward deflector) protecting and hardening key ship segments, but in conjunction with current shielding, can work to greatly increase Shield Hardiness.
The Sun Tzu also comes with a Variable Assault Deflector Array, which is a small component built into the ships Deflector (not to be confused with a secondary deflector array), which can channel weapons power through the Main Array itself, and fires it outward overcharging the ships Forward Shield Array for prolonged frontal assaults, as well as causing moderate phaser damage to anything in the fore firing arc.
The Experimental Systems also allows for the Sun Tzu to generate a Graviton Shield which projects a 2.5km Shield around the vessel that absorbs and reverberates kinetic impacts back in on itself, sending away special debris and returning torpedoes back to sender for a short period of time.
Auxiliary Craft
The USS Prerogative is a Captains Yacht which is anchored underneath the Main Cargo Bay area, and is utilized for diplomatic and long range missions.
The Utility Craft have been updated with 2 new Yellowstone Class Runabout Shuttlecraft USS Drummer Boy and USS War Horse (One on each side). These vessels have a slightly improved Impulse Engine than standard shuttlecraft, and are equipped with an Omni-Directional Phaser Beam Array, and Kinetic Cutting Beam for all around offensive protection.
Finally, the Shuttle Bay is equipped with 7 Peregrine Attack Fighters (3 on each side and one centralized). This can give the Sun Tzu two wings of Fighter Support, plus one “Wing Leader” [U.S.S. Blue Hawk] when needed. Each Fighter is equipped with Dual Heavy Phaser Cannons and Micro Quantum Torpedos. The Wing Leader, USS Blue Hawk is equipped with Quad Phaser Cannons and Quantum Torpedo Launcher. Though warp capable, these are intended for short range missions only.
